Hyperreality, Single Channel Projected Video and Sculpture, Fall 2024

This piece explores the concept of hyperreality through projected video, focusing on the difference between hyperreality and material reality. The piece includes an Oculus Quest two, a VR headset produced by Meta. A video portraying the ritual performances I enact in daily life is projected upon the object connecting these two. The headset is placed on a reflective stage, which is split down the middle, catching half the video on one side. This side represents material reality and its inability to be captured. As the video reaches its midpoint, it replays in reverse as the video continues to distort and degrade. Artifacts of this distortion appear on the right side of the video showing the unknown ways in which todays hyperreality affects material reality. The video then continues to loop following the daily loops of our modern lives, and the inevitable transformation of that loop.

Orbital Odessey Character Conceptual Development Video, Fall 2024

This is a video used to help develop character concepts and designs for DeVLup at FSU’s semester project, the video game Orbital Odyssey. The video serves as an image board featuring the initial four characters created for the game, based on the terrestrial planets. The video features early character models for of the characters, some further along than others, as well as a win/loss sound effect for each, and early conceptual designs for landscapes, backgrounds, and vehicles.

Parallels, Fall 2024

This piece uses edited found footage to draw parallels between past and present narratives in cultural myth making. It juxtaposes Gilded Age films against contemporary tik-toks (sourced from YouTube shorts) tackling the same topics. The piece is scored to Oneotrix Point Never’s song “The Body Trail,” from his most recent album Again. In lieu of using transparency, the piece quickly overlays frames from the tik-tok footage in time with the score. This creates a hypnotic effect, encouraging viewers to meditate and take in both the contrast and similarities of the two videos. Due to the nature of social media’s algorithmic based recommendation system, an element of randomness was imbued in the searching for contemporary videos. This is reflected in the work itself, showing a collection of videos that were recommended to a “guest user” by YouTubes algorithms. This theme is present in the narrative of the work as well. As the music intensifies, the contemporary videos become more sensational and monetary driven.

Dorm Room Flood, Fall 2022

This video depicts a representation of the feeling of anxiety. As a student works at their desk, they become submerged within a strange black liquid. This video served as an exploration of fluid simulations and compositing as well as 3D scanning.
