This interactive sculpture has rules similar to a game, with a fixed yet vast number of solutions. The sculpture uses a quadrant color scheme to show depth. The sculpture has 2 stages. Each stage has 16 holes on a 4×4 grid, where along the x and y axis, each depth value is assigned a hue along the color scheme. Audience members may put there peg and shape in whatever whole they like but, the color of the shape must match that of the wood on the column or row it is placed on, and each column and row may only have one peg. The additional shapes are then matched to the placed pegs in accordance with the color of the row and column along the opposite axis. This will lead to a solution where the association between hue and depth along an axis can be seen from either side of the sculpture. Included are images of the design process of the piece, in addition to two solutions.
This interactive sculpture is meant to embody the idea of myth. Displayed at ground level the interactive sculpture by its nature will encourage the audience to move the “stone,” created using acrylic paint and clay, revealing a incised square. This square’s walls are decorated with gilded paint and its floor is a dark shade of red, giving the illusion that light is emanating from its floor. Also included are design documentations and a mockup sculpture.
